Telemetry
Background
Telemetry is an automated communications process where measurements are collected at a remote point and transmitted to receiving equipment for monitoring. The telemeter is a device used to remotely measure any quantity. It consists of a sensor, a transmission path, and control device.
Direction
Pump stations are at the heart of every efficient water supply system. For more than 25 years UHF and VHF radio technology has been the main stay regarding equipment control for remote areas.
Reservoir Control Systems
An example of how Sterling Communications can be used for telemetry is reservoir control systems. In this application, the reservoir is fitted with a float switch that opens when the reservoir is low on water supply and closes when the reservoir is full. These switches are controlled through two-way radio communication, the transmitter at the reservoir and receiver at the pump station. Since there is no AC power at the reservoir, power is supplied from a battery and small solar panel. The radio will have minimal current drain, as it only transmits when either of the switches change state.
Summary
This application is for residents, farmers and ranchers, finding solutions to constantly emerging water resources challenges is a constant concern. Telemetry eliminates the guesswork regarding manual settings and programmed settings.
